Bonding is frequently used to correct the appearance of a chipped or discolored tooth. It can be used to close gaps between teeth, to make teeth look longer or to alter the color or shape of teeth. In our office, tooth colored fillings are used as a cosmetic alternative to metal fillings to give the teeth a more attractive appearance.

What are the benefits for Tooth colored Fillings?

    • Fix decayed teeth (fill cavities)
    • Repair chipped or cracked tooth
    • A cosmetic alternative to metal fillings
    • Protect a tooth’s root that has been exposed
[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Crown and Bridge’ tags=” custom_id=”] Dental crowns are tooth-shaped covers that are placed over damaged or weakened teeth to recover their natural appearance and prevent further deterioration. Crowns are used when teeth are chipped or broken, after a root canal procedure to cover the exposed area of a tooth, for cosmetic reasons, or to replace an old filling. If a filling can’t fix the problem, using crowns will provide a long-term solution to improving the function of your teeth and enhancing the look of your smile.

Our Crowns are metal-free and are made from a very durable, tooth-colored material called zirconia. Because all of our crowns are custom made, it will take two appointments to complete the treatment. During your first visit, the area is numbed so that you are comfortable. Dr. Somers will then shape and prepare the damaged tooth so that the crown can securely fit over it. Next, impressions are taken of the prepared tooth. Impressions are now taken in our office using our 3-D digital scanner. This means we no longer use the messy uncomfortable impression material. These 3-D computerized images of your mouth are used to fabricate a model of your mouth from which the final crown is created. As a result of the digital scanner, the impression process is more precise, more comfortable and more time efficient.  While the final crown is being created, a temporary crown is typically used to protect the tooth. When your final crown is completed, dental cement is used to secure the crown to the tooth. Your tooth is now fully restored to a healthy and functioning state.

The same process of making a crown applies to dental bridges. In the case of a bridge an artificial tooth is connected to a set of crowns on either side of the spaces. When completed a bridge is permanently attached to the teeth. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental exams, bridges and crowns can be a long-term solution to problems created by missing and damaged teeth.[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Root Canals’ tags=” custom_id=”] At Somers Dentistry we have shortened the root canal process into one quick, easy and painless visit. Each tooth consists of three different layers. Starting from the outside, first there is the enamel (the outer layer of each tooth which is the hardest part of the body). The second layer is dentin (the inside hard layer) and then we have the pulp (which is an empty space where the live tissue and nerve of each tooth is located). If the pulp space is exposed to the outside, the tissue will become contaminated and most likely infected. The exposure of pulp can occur when you have a large cavity, or a fractured tooth. The treatment for such occurrences is Root Canal Treatment.

Root canal treatment is the process of removing the infected nerve, contaminated tissue and blood vessels while treating the pulp space. Our implant team is dedicated to providing our patients with the best-looking and best-feeling teeth possible.

    What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium root that can be used to replace a tooth that is lost due to trauma, decay or gum disease. A dental implant consists of three parts: the implant, a titanium root that replaces your natural tooth’s root under the gum; an abutment, which is the foundation on which your new tooth will connect to a crown, which is the tooth that is visible above the gum.

What are the benefits of a dental implant?

    • Dental implants cannot get a cavity
    • Dental implants do not affect surrounding teeth
    • Dental implants replace one more missing teeth due to trauma, decay or gum disease
    • Dental implants can be used to support a bridge for the replacement of multiple teeth
    • Dental implants can be used to stabilize loose or uncomfortable dentures

While it can take a while to get used to dentures, today’s dentures are more natural looking and more comfortable than ever. Dr. Somers will help you determine if full or partial dentures are a good option for you.

How Long Before I Get Used to My Dentures?
New dentures may feel awkward or uncomfortable for the first few weeks or even months. Eating and speaking with dentures might take a little practice. A bulky or loose feeling is not uncommon, while the muscles of your cheeks and tongue learn to hold your dentures in place. Excessive saliva flow, a feeling that the tongue does not have adequate room, and minor irritation or soreness is also not unusual sensations to experience. Adjustments are a normal part of new dentures and are always included in the cost of making them. Please don’t hesitate to call Dr. Somers for an adjustment.

    How Long do Dentures Last?
Over a period of time, your denture will need to be relined remade due to normal wear. Also, as you age, your mouth naturally changes. These changes cause your dentures to loosen, making chewing difficult and irritating your gums. At a minimum, you should see Dr. Somers annually for a checkup to be sure the best clinical result.[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Clear Aligners’ tags=” custom_id=”] There are so many people who avoid orthodontic treatment because they cannot stand the thought of wearing braces or they believe that braces will be very uncomfortable. Many people avoid orthodontic treatment out of a fear of noticeable, uncomfortable braces. For people with these fears, today’s technology has provided an alternative, called Clear Correct.

Today, Clear Correct provides an alternative to braces for certain types of cases. With traditional braces, you need brackets cemented to your teeth. Then, a wire is connected to each bracket to force your teeth into the correct position. With Clear Correct, you are given clear, removable plastic aligners that are worn throughout the day that over time, will move your teeth into the correct position.

Clear Correct consists of a series of aligners that you change every two weeks over the course of six to twelve months. The length of time is determined on a case by case basis. Each aligner is worn for two weeks, removed to eat, drink and brush your teeth. Appointments are usually every four to eight weeks.[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Night Guards’ tags=” custom_id=”] Do you notice that you grind or clench your teeth? Are you having TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain? There is an effective treatment to help combat these habits and symptoms called an occlusal guard.

A majority of grinding or clenching occurs during sleeping. Jaw pain, soreness, and teeth sensitivity are some of the effects of teeth grinding. At times, patients may be symptom free; however, the dentist will notify the patient if wear patterns (flattened cusps on teeth, thinning enamel) are present during their routine examination and cleaning visits.

An occlusal night guard is an excellent treatment option to combat the effects of grinding. Our occlusal night guards are made by scanning your teeth with a 3D scanner. Theyu are made from a dual layer material that is soft inside for comfort and hard on the outside for durability. An occlusal night guard is made of a firm plastic type material similar to a protective sports guard that is custom made to your teeth. By wearing the occlusal guard to sleep the jaw muscles relax and grinding and clenching of teeth are limited while sleeping. It is a safe, simple, effective treatment option that can limit teeth grinding, prevent jaw soreness, teeth sensitivity and decrease the risk of cavities as it helps keep the protective enamel layer intact.[/av_toggle] [/av_toggle_container] [/av_cell_one_half][av_cell_one_half vertical_align=’top’ padding=’60px’ padding_sync=’true’ background=’bg_color’ background_color=’#52a5ea’ background_gradient_color1=” background_gradient_color2=” background_gradient_direction=’vertical’ src=” attachment=” attachment_size=” background_attachment=’scroll’ background_position=’top left’ background_repeat=’no-repeat’ link=” linktarget=” link_hover=” mobile_display=” av_uid=’av-7vq0n’] [av_heading heading=’COSMETIC DENTISTRY’ tag=’h2′ link_apply=” link=” link_target=” style=’blockquote modern-quote modern-centered’ size=” subheading_active=’subheading_above’ subheading_size=’15’ margin=” padding=’10’ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#ffffff’ custom_class=” id=” admin_preview_bg=” av-desktop-hide=” av-medium-hide=” av-small-hide=” av-mini-hide=” av-medium-font-size-title=” av-small-font-size-title=” av-mini-font-size-title=” av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=”][/av_heading] [av_hr class=’custom’ height=’50’ shadow=’no-shadow’ position=’center’ custom_border=’av-border-thin’ custom_width=’50px’ custom_border_color=’#722c2e’ custom_margin_top=’30px’ custom_margin_bottom=’47px’ icon_select=’yes’ custom_icon_color=’#f2f2f2′ icon=’ue8b4′ font=’entypo-fontello’ custom_class=” av_uid=’av-1u4nzj’] [av_textblock size=’16’ font_color=’custom’ color=’#ffffff’ av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=” av_uid=’av-1oeqen’ admin_preview_bg=”] For those seeking advanced care and have cosmetic needs, Somers Dentistry, LLC provides an array of cosmetic procedures to improve the look of your smile.

We use the most advanced techniques available including a CT scanner to map the exact location of the root.

After root canal treatment is finished, we will typically fabricate a crown for the tooth protecting the tooth against future fracture.[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Tooth Extractions’ tags=” custom_id=”] Tooth Extraction is the removal of a tooth. This process can be needed as part of your treatment plan for numerous reasons. At Somers Dentistry, our team is dedicated to keeping your natural teeth but when that is no longer an option, you can count on our staff to remove the needed tooth or teeth in a comfortable environment.

    Reasons for Tooth Extraction:

    • Wisdom Tooth removal
    • To make room for additional teeth
    • Dental Decay
[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Implants’ tags=” custom_id=”] Dental Implants are the best solution for missing teeth. Dental implants can be used to replace missing front and back teeth, stabilize a loose denture, and build an entire new smile.

At Somers Dentistry, we offer both placement and restoration of dental implants.

Our patients appreciate the convenience of having everything done in one location.

    • Dental implants can be used to build a new set of teeth
[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Dentures’ tags=” custom_id=”] Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be removed and placed back into your mouth.

We use the most advanced techniques available including a CT scanner to map the exact location of the root.

    • Dental implants can be used to build a new set of teeth
[/av_toggle] [av_toggle title=’Dentures’ tags=” custom_id=”] Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be removed and placed back into your mouth.

    • Dental implants can be used to build a new set of teeth

We use the most advanced techniques available including a CT scanner to map the exact location of the root.
